Description
MARJORY A. MACLEAN
The Chalmers Lectures of 2007
Marjory MacLean combines legal and theological techniques to sketch a better approach to the legal authority of national churches – ‘the sovereignty of servanthood’ – and calls for a more trusting engagement between civil law and church law.
Students and scholars of both constitutional law and church governance will respond to this argument, and to the survey of Scotland’s national Church.
- Offers a radical and unexpected view of the future of church-state relations in Scotland
- Contains a constitutional survey of post-Reformation Church of Scotland history
- Brings together legal and theological analysis of our Church’s position
- Of interest to those of all denominations throughout the UK who are concerned with Church/State relations and church governance
